Old Schoolhouse, Rouse Hill Estate

Project Overview

Built in 1888 and designed by Architect William Kemp the schoolhouse was strategically located between the predominantly Anglican Rouse Hill village and the mainly Catholic parish of Nelson. In the hope that children from both faiths would attend and help quash any religious bigotry.

The school operated right up until 2002 when a new school was built nearby.

We were hired by Sydney Living Museums (now Museums of history). Our scope was to focus on the exterior of the building, replacing/repairing any timber work ready for paint.
